Frequently asked questions
How does the system work?
Each of our members submits details of applications that they receive for products such as mortgages, credit cards, loans etc.
Applications are checked against existing applications for anomalies that may indicate application fraud using a predefined set of rules. Any applications that warrant investigation are referred for further checks.
We exist solely to protect business and individuals against application fraud.
What data do we hold?
The details of applications our members receive for products such as mortgages, credit cards, loans etc. The information that is held relates only to applications made to our member organisations, and consists only of the application information supplied by the applicant(s).
We do not hold any credit scoring records, credit histories, information concerning County Court Judgements (CCJs) or bankruptcies, nor do we store Electoral Roll information.
Do we make automated decisions to decline cases?
No we don’t. Members are governed by strict operating rules which means that no applications are automatically declined on the basis of National Hunter information.
All our members are audited on their use of the system on a regular basis.
How can you obtain details of the information we hold about you?
We may carry out a search, on your behalf, under Section 7 of the Data Protection Act. Full information on how to do this is on our website www.nhunter.co.uk. This is known as a Subject Access Request.
Why do you need to send documentation to verify signature and address?
The Data Protection Act states that we should be supplied with such information as may be reasonably required in order to satisfy ourselves as to the identity of the person making the request. Because it is possible that the person making the request might be impersonating you, we take our responsibilities to ensure we are dealing with the genuine individual very seriously. The way we do this is to ensure we have been able to verify your name, date of birth, address and signature.
What do we do with the copy ID you send to us?
It is kept on file for a period of time in case there are any further queries regarding the subject access request. After this, it is securely destroyed. It is not scanned or copied or used in any other way.
Why do we operate from a PO Box number?
Our job is to prevent fraudsters from being successful. We therefore have a duty of care to protect our members of staff against any potential retribution in view of our work, and this is one way we are able to do this.
How to contact us?
If you want to obtain the details we hold about you, we are unable to deal with requests for information unless they are in writing, so you need to go to the page entitled ‘your data’ for further instructions.
If you have any general queries, email us at info@nhunter.co.uk.
